My 3rd Semester at WCC

Here we are already 4 weeks into our new year of 2017.  I will tell you all that it looks to be a very interesting year indeed.

I am now in my 3rd semester at Wilkes Community College located in Wilkesboro, NC.  I found that taking all online classes thus far has been both interesting and challenging.  Organization, planning, and structure are all very needed elements to attaining success in both comprehension and assignment completion rates.

I found the summer semester of 8 weeks really flew by with 3 diverse subjects such as psychology, art appreciation, and business introduction.  I completed 2/3 and will need to retake the business course in a future semester.

My age was only part of the challenges that I found I needed to deal with and overcome in order to have any measure of success.  I will be blogging much more this year about my experiences in taking 6 online courses this time around.  I became a full-time student as of January 5th and have learned of a number of extremely helpful resources here at the college.

One very important resource is the SAGE Department which offers materials, tutors, workshops, laptops, and calculators to assist member students to be successful in the college journey to either a diploma, certificate, or degree.

In my 2nd semester, I actually changed my major from Advertising/Graphic Design to Business Administration.  This choice on my part has elevated some stress in that my comfort level with the Business curriculum is much higher than with Graphic Design curriculum.  I had never used a Mac until my first graphic design class last semester.  It only took one day for me to realize I needed to make a change.  It resulted in my earning 3 A's and doubling my GPA.

I encourage all who wish to return and/or begin a college education to look for ways to do so.  I will continue to let you all know how things work out as the weeks continue...

My interest with writing began by composing poems about nature in my childhood. I also co-wrote a play in my 4th grade class when I lived in New Rochelle, NY. It generated enough positive feedback that my class put on the play in the school auditorium. I was fortunate to have a lead part. After my high school graduation, I entered the working world. For over 30 years I have been steadily gaining writing, editing and digital publishing skills. I began by composing letters and emails to company clients. I contributed to articles written for The Commuters Register based in Windsor, CT. Since 2009, I have added social media, digital publishing and blogging here in Wilkesboro, NC. Since 2010, I write ad copy for the listing descriptions for each of my 3 Internet shops open at Etsy.com. In 2012, I entered a poem about my dog Red in the World Poetry Contest. The poem was chosen for publication. I have written articles for the Winston-Salem Frugal Living Examiner and Hub Pages. In 2012, I acquired The Wilkes Gazette digital newspaper that was renamed the Wilkes County Gazette in 2014. I write under both my own name and my pen name, Jeanne Armonk.
